We have been appointed by Hull City Council to lead a five‑year programme of repair, strengthening and maintenance works across some of the city’s most important bridges.
The appointment marks a significant milestone in the council’s wider infrastructure investment programme, approved in June 2025, which focuses on improving Hull’s bridges, statues and monuments. Sixteen bridges form part of the programme, including major schemes such as:
As a Hull‑based engineering consultancy with decades of experience working on the city’s structures, we will provide technical leadership, continuity and oversight across the programme. The team is already supporting several key schemes, including detailed investigations on Scale Lane Footbridge and design support for the ongoing Drypool Bridge repairs.
A long‑term commitment to Hull’s infrastructure
Councillor Mark Leronimo, cabinet portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure at Hull City Council, said the programme reflects the city’s commitment to protecting vital assets:
“Hull’s bridges are a vital part of daily travel for our residents, businesses and visitors, and we know how much they matter to people across the city. Many of these structures have been part of Hull’s history for generations and we want to ensure they are futureproofed for generations to come.
Appointing Mason Clark Associates is an important step forward and their local knowledge and technical expertise will help us deliver these improvements to a high standard and keep Hull moving.”
Pride in supporting the city we call home
Andy Thompson, Director of Bridges at MCA, said the team is proud to play a central role in safeguarding Hull’s infrastructure:
“As a Hull‑based company, we take enormous pride in the bridges that form such an important part of the city’s identity and daily life. Many of our staff live as well as work in the city, so these structures aren’t just engineering assets to us — they’re part of our own communities and the places we care about.
The work ahead is complex and varied, but it offers a real opportunity to protect and improve some of Hull’s most significant pieces of infrastructure. Our focus is to ensure every scheme is delivered thoroughly and to a high standard, providing long‑term benefits for residents, businesses and visitors.”
Delivering technical excellence for the city’s future
Our appointment provides the council with a single, dedicated point of contact to coordinate multiple complex projects, ensuring:
The programme will run over the next five years, supporting the reliability of Hull’s transport network and contributing to wider economic growth across the region.
