Changing Facility Project

Overview

The Clee Fields redevelopment in Grimsby is a £4 million investment in community sport, including two new 3G artificial pitches and a modern changing facility.

Mason Clark Associates (MCA) was appointed to provide structural engineering services for the new single-storey building, which includes team changing rooms, a café, and management spaces.

Challenges and Solutions

The project presented several practical challenges that required a clear and efficient approach:

• Flood Risk Compliance: The building needed to be raised 300mm above ground level to meet flood safety requirements, hence influencing the foundation and slab design.
• Budget and Procurement: The team provided advice to help the client stay within budget, including selecting suitable materials and managing contractor input.
• Collaboration: MCA worked directly with the Architect to ensure the structural design met the project requirements.

Our clear communication, efficient design, and practical solutions, kept the project on track and within scope.

MCA's Contribution

Our contribution of structural and engineering design services included:

• Delivering all structural design elements for the building, including steelwork, masonry, slab, and foundation design.
• Compiling a full Design Risk Assessment and provided CAD detailing and internal checks.
• Ensuring the structural integrity of the facility while meeting programme and budget constraints.

Results

The new changing facility was completed in summer 2024 and now serves as a hub for football, rugby, and community activities.

It includes four team changing rooms with underfloor heating, a therapy room, and accessible amenities.

The building complements the new 3G pitches and car park extension, offering a high-quality, inclusive space for local clubs, schools and social initiatives.
