Overview
With the existing facility at Bude Park no longer functional, Hull City Council (HCC) undertook a full refurbishment of the park with the aim of making it safer and environmentally friendly.
The new splash pad provides a safer, more exciting and environmentally sustainable replacement, ensuring local communities have free-to-access amenities on their doorstep.
Challenges and Solutions
Ground investigation reports from the adjacent Bude playing fields site confirmed very poor ground conditions exist. Based on this a reinforced concrete raft design in conjunction with a ground bearing slab to the inner areas of the splash pad were designed.
Existing drainage was located in close proximity and required integrating into the proposals. Due to the programme restrictions phasing of the concrete pour sequence was closely scrutinised and rationalised to reduce construction periods were possible.
Due to tight programme requirements, close liaison with the construction and design teams was required in order to agree a simple and repetitive build solution.
