Beningbrough Hall is a fine Grade I Listed Georgian Mansion, overlooking the River Ouse near York. It is one of the National Trust's flagship properties in the area with ever increasing footfall from the public.

Mason Clark Associates have been associated with the Hall for many years. We have carried out assessments of the magnificent cantilever stone and timber staircases and completed the structural design of some of the sensitive interventions to the fabric including the insertion of a new lift and new external toilet facilities.

Our most recent involvement has been with refurbishment and repairs to the main roof structure including stabilising the tall brick chimneys and careful strengthening to the timber roof trusses. We have provided the engineering input via our heritage team, and also cost advice and project management services through the contract.

At the moment, our heritage team, quantity surveyors and CDM Principal Designer are working on the internal repairs to the fabric and improvements to the electrical installation in Beningbrough Hall, with works planned to commence in 2022. The complexities of some aspects of the project have made it one of our most interesting and enjoyable ones of the last few years.

Our Building Surveyors also designed and managed the first phase of re-roofing of the farm buildings at Home Farm, which is Listed in its own right but forms part of the Beningbrough Hall estate. The work involved some challenging health and safety issues connected with asbestos in the roof coverings, structural propping requirements and working around the continuing farm operations, all of which were managed in our role as CDM Principal Designer in conjunction with the Principal Contractor.
