John Clark - Managing Director - Chartered Civil Engineer

John is the Managing Director of Mason Clark Associates, a position he has held since 1990. Prior to working for Mason Clark Associates, John gained experience of working for Consulting Engineers, Local Authorities and Contractors. He has particular experience in Design and Project Management of highways and bridges.

In recent years John has managed several framework contracts which have operated under the NEC set of contracts and he has carried out the role of project manager.

More recently he has compiled various specialist and expert reports relating to construction issues on building structures, civil engineering and marine structures.

In his spare time, John likes to spend time relaxing with his family and enjoys playing most sports but particularly tennis and golf.

Ian Cook MRICS - Director - Chartered Building Surveyor

Ian Cook - Director - Chartered Building Surveyor

Ian has over 20 years experience in the construction industry previously working in Local Government and multi-disciplinary construction consultant companies.

He is experienced in all aspects of building surveying, project management, CDMC, party wall dispute resolution and expert witness work.

Ian is a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. He is also a Registered Member of the Association of Project Safety and a Member of the Faculty of Party Wall Surveyors 2001.

A keen golfer, Ian spends some of his spare time on the green trying to get that hole in one!

Graham Helme BSc(Hons) CEng MIStructE AMICE - Director - Chartered Structural Engineer

Graham Helme - Director - Chartered Structural Engineer

Graham joined Mason Clark Associates in 2005 to manage the integration of the Richard Brooke Partnership into the company and currently manages a team of Engineers and administrative staff in the Leeds office.

Graham has over 30 years experience in the construction industry, responsible for the management and development of structural engineering services. He began his career as a Trainee Technician in 1977 and in that time worked for a number of private consulting engineering companies as well as for the British Waterways Board. He has particular expertise in the education, industrial and commercial sectors and in off site construction. He is also an Approved Certifier (Building Structures) under Building (Scotland) Regulations 2004 as well as an NHBC Timber Frame and Lightweight Steel Frame Certifier.

Graham has also presented a paper to a joint branch meeting of the Institution of Structural Engineers and Institution of Civil Engineers on the redevelopment of Kirkstall Brewery and has had a piece on 'Difficulties with the Quantative Assessment of Contaminated Land' published in 'The Structural Engineer' in July 2000. He is also a member of the authoring panel for 'The Masonry Designers Manual'.

In his spare time, as a member of the Yorkshire Mountaineering Club, Graham likes to spend some of his time in the Lake District with his fellow mountaineers.

Andy Thompson BSc(Hons) CEng MICE - Director - Chartered Civil Engineer

Andy Thompson - Director - Chartered Civil Engineer

Andy is Director of the Structural Engineering Department in the Hull office. He joined Mason Clark in 2004 as a Senior Engineer and progressed through the company. Andy qualified with a first class honours degree in Civil and Structural Engineering from the University of Bradford in 2000 and became a Chartered Civil Engineer in 2006.

As well as managing the Structural Department in Hull, Andy also operates the company Environmental Management Scheme which has been accredited to ISO14001.

A member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Andy is heavily involved in the operation of the Institution locally being a member of the Humber Branch and Yorkshire regional committees and secretary for the prestigious Yorkshire & Humber Awards. Andy is a past Chairman of the Humber Branch committee and has served a year on the Yorkshire Executive Board.

Prior to working for Mason Clark Associates, Andy gained experience of working within the rail industry working on a variety of different projects. Andy has particular experience in bridge design and assessment and 3D modelling of building structures using various types of software.

In his spare time, Andy is a keen gardener having his own allotment and growing much of his own fruit and vegetables.

Douglas Jaram BSc(Hons) MRICS MCIOB - Associate - Chartered Building Surveyor

Douglas Jaram - Associate - Chartered Building Surveyor

Douglas originally started in the construction industry as a family house builder and contractor before moving into consultancy in the early 1990's. Taking the opportunity to upgrade his qualifications, he graduated from Leeds Metropolitan University in 2002 with a first class honours degree before becoming fully qualified as a Chartered Building Surveyor in 2004.

Douglas has worked for small and large consultancy practices in his time working on a variety of different projects and buildings. He joined Mason Clark in 2006 as a senior surveyor and was promoted to associate in 2008. Douglas takes pride in being versatile and takes on any type of project but has a particular interest in building pathology and party wall work.

Douglas is a member of The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, the Chartered Institute of Building and the Pyramus and Thisbe club. He is also an APC assessor and trainer for the RICS.

In his spare time Douglas enjoys family life but is also a keen motorcyclist.
